Weekly Announcements
March 5th - March 9th
I hope everyone stayed safe during Friday's storm. That was pretty wild! We have another busy week ahead, and it is hard to believe that it is my final week. This will be a transition week as Mrs. McNulty will start to teach. I know that students are excited to have her, and I am grateful to leave the class in such great hands. Thank you all for your support this year, I will keep you posted on baby Guillaume's arrival.
This week in math we will wrap up unit 6. We will continue to practice solving two step problems and following the order of operation rules. On Thursday we will take our unit 6 math test.
In Fundations we will take our unit 7 test and start unit 8. In this unit we will focus on words that end in "le" and "el." Students will learn rules to help them identify words with the consonant -le pattern. We will continue to learn new sound alike words and practice the upper case cursive Z and Y.
During writing this week we will continue to write opinion pieces. Last week we read two controversial articles. Students choose a "side" based off of these articles and will use the article to write a persuasive organizer. This week we will learn strategies for writing leads and fill out a graphic organizer. Students will use a checklist to revise and add to their writing, as well as edit to make their writing clear to readers.
This week in reading we will launch our biography unit. Students will identify features of biography texts, as well as read a short biography on Wilma Rudolph. As we read students will identify obstacles and accomplishments in Wilma's life. Later in the week we will introduce our shared text "Secret Solider" a biography that follows Deborah Sampson during the American Revolution.
Lastly, in science we will continue to learn about extinction. Students will read about extinction and identify the causes of plants and animal extinction.
It should be a great week!
